How to use Colors
Once you’ve uploaded your picture into the AirBrush app, open the Colors feature. You’ll find it in the Tool menu.
This super cool tool gives you the ability to be creative with your pictures and choose among 9 established colors. Your options are red, turquoise, blue, purple, fuchsia, light pink, orange, yellow, and green. After choosing one, you can also select the tone. Each one has 3 sub tones available: light, normal, and dark. This ensures more accuracy in your editing.
Once you’ve selected your color and tone, the last step is to adjust the intensity of the effect. To do this, simply drag the dot and the effect will be applied automatically.
It’s important to target the color you want to emphasize. Here, you’ll notice that the two strongest colors are in Red and Orange tones. With each color you can play with the mid tones, shadows, & highlights to achieve the perfect amount of vibrance or lack thereof. When you think about it, Autumn has the most unique tones that are specific for that season so why not enhance them and show the world a fall wonderland in every pic.
Once you find your perfect shade of autumnal gorgeousness you can crank that puppy all the way to 100. You’ll notice that if you’re wearing red clothing, have a rosy complexion, or are a redhead the Color tool will enhance those shades to match the autumn leaves.
I mean does anyone else want to pull up a chair and warm up by this autumn color FIRE pic??
From dull to duhhhmazing (translation: ‘it’s almost dumb how amazing this is’) the Colors tool is pure color magic.
Versatility is key
While some pictures will have one main color running through them, others may have a variety, all ripe and ready to be enhanced using the Colors tool. This particular image shows us a mostly gold range of leaves with red undertones. By adjusting the red midtones we’re able to mute the colors to create a sepia masterpiece.
The reverse of this would be to tap into the gold, autumn colors in the picture and adjust the shadows, midtones, and highlights. You can even layer the Colors tool by adjusting one color then going over it again with a second. Here we saved the changes we made to the red tones then brought it back to adjust the gold tones.
Look. At. That. So what we actually have here is a masterpiece. By layering the use of the Colors tool, we achieved a super muted background and brought all the focus where it belongs, the autumn colors and YOU!
Hit the mute button
Now, science has proven that art is a thing. Science has also proven that most art is really just moody things. So, how does a tool that enhances colors to be richer help create a mood? By doing the exact opposite. That’s right, the colors tool also works in reverse, reducing the saturation of a specific color.
Jump between each color until the right moody tone stands out to you. In case you haven’t noticed there’s a lot of red and orange going on during autumn so here we’ll bounce between those two tones. Notice how instead of highlighting the subjects in the picture we’re focusing on their surroundings. It completely changes the tone of the image! Are you part of a guitar playing duo that sings about living in a cabin in Wyoming? Cuz with these picture editing skills you better get to it!
